Are You a Good Candidate for LASIK?

Laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis, otherwise known as LASIK eye surgery, is a common but delicate procedure that can help you turn around your vision and minimize or even eliminate the need for corrective lenses. The key to success? Choosing the right doctor and understanding what to expect before you go in.

Why LASIK?

LASIK can be used to treat several common vision problems:

  • Myopia (nearsightedness): You can see nearby objects clearly, but objects in the distance may be blurry or otherwise distorted
  • Hyperopia (farsightedness): The opposite of myopia, in which you can clearly see objects in the distance but those objects close to you are blurry
  • Astigmatism: Overall blurry vision affecting objects near and far

What Makes You a Good Candidate (and What Might Rule You Out)

The only way to truly know if you’re a good candidate for LASIK is to schedule a consult with one of our providers, but in general the ideal candidate for LASIK is:

  • At least 18 years old
  • In good general health
  • Free of eye diseases
  • Not nursing or pregnant
  • Have relatively stable vision
  • No eye infections or injuries

The Truth About LASIK: After Your Surgery

No two patients are the same, but one thing is universal: Follow your doctor’s recommendations and you’ll have the best possible chance for an incredible outcome. Long before your procedure, we’ll sit down and discuss what to expect from LASIK so you know exactly what’s to come.

We perform our LASIK surgeries on Fridays; sleep afterward to reduce post-operative irritation, rest up over the weekend, and by Monday you’ll most likely be ready to return to your normal routine. Make sure you keep all your follow-up exams — they’re a vital part of continued healing.
